The 2nd game of the 2017 BLIA Cup International University Basketball Tournament Day 1 was between the Malaysia National Women’s team and the Vanguard University Women’s team from Southern California. After the 1st quarter, Malaysia was up by a slight margin of 9 points for a score of 23-14. During the 2nd quarter, Vanguard only managed to score 2 points during the first 5 minutes with 4 free throws. At the end of the 1st half, Malaysia pulled away with a much larger 20-point lead for a score of 43-23.

During the 2nd half, Vanguard University carried on with its lackluster performance and was unable to break through Malaysia’s defense. Malaysia continued its dominance and issued Vanguard their first defeat with a final score of 79-51.

Malaysia’s team played very well together with over 23 rebounds and assists. With 17 points, Malaysia’s Yap Fook Yee was awarded “Most Valuable Player,” followed by Chong Yin Yin who scored 14 points. Victoria Chea was Vanguard University’s top scorer with 11 points and 5 out of the team’s 8 assists in the match.
